The rifles use McMillan stocks and extraordinarily thick Krieger barrels bearing an 18 lb (8.2 kg) muzzle brake.

Even when fired from a 110-pound rifle, the free recoil energy would be over 200 foot-pounds (270 J) without a muzzle brake.

SSK ceased production of the ammunition in 2014.
