Nature Tour; These 45-minute tours of the Manasquan Reservoir, Howell, are narrated by Park System Naturalists and include opportunities to view local wildlife.

One exhibit features fish found in the Reservoir outside. Boaters, bikers, hikers, naturalists and horseback riders are among the folks who would enjoy this resource. Oh my Lanta! The event itself ran from 2-5 PM, but you could go earlier to get a good spot on the dock and there are also a few staff members to show you how to fish.

Unfortunately we only had only one or 2 hours to spend here, but just from that short span, I have to say that I wildly recommend this beautiful reservoir. The water wasn't too hot or too cold, it felt very nice to dip our hands in on this scorching day! Inspect your campsite and rest areas for trash or spilled foods. Continue 1.5 miles to the Reservoir Area on left.

Cover and disguise the cathole when finished. There are even very small "beach front" areas to hang out! These essentials will help you enjoy your outing more and will provide basic safety gear if needed. These activities are from the Joseph C. Irwin Recreation Area Visitor Center on Windeler Road. I plan to go back on a later date, better equipped. Keep in mind that fluid loss is heightened in winter as well as summer. Protect wildlife and your food by storing rations and trash securely.

Other than that small item I just mentioned, the park is well worth going to.

On the one side there's a little nature center not by the main entrance that you can see local nature,and they do arts and crafts with kids on weekends. I usually see a deer every time I go. The Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center is dedicated to providing experiences of learning and discovery related to wetlands ecology and wildlife and habitat protection.

Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. Bicycles are permitted on most of the paths as well as dogs & horses. The Perimeter Trail is the one that primarily follows the contours of the reservoir and I would rate that as easy.

The Reservoir is open year round for fishing and is stocked with large and small-mouth bass, hybrid striped bass, tiger muskie, bullhead catfish and panfish species. (c) Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics: www.LNT.org. So does cold. Great 5.1 mile perimeter trail to walk, run, or bike. My only regret was not getting there during the fall foliage season. Please call to confirm schedule as tours are both weather and water level dependent. 1.6 mile, crushed rock path well organized and nicely kept and Dogs too, of course, but must be leashed.

Do not follow or approach them. Having lived across the street from the reservoir for 25 years and hundreds of visits, I feel I'm pretty well qualified to rate it.

The Manasquan reservoir is a classic favorite especially for Howell NJ natives. If you like to fish, this is the place! All in all, the scenery was fantastic and I will definitely add this to my list of activities to do again in the future. Emergency Numbers -  Know the emergency numbers for the area you're going to and realize that in many locations--especially mountainous ones, your phone will not get reception.
