The first English-language effort from Scherfig , Wilbur Wants to Kill Himself was nominated for best film at Denmark's 2003 Bodil Awards. They marry because that's what you are supposed to do. One day Alice enters the shop with her little daughter. Kind of a waste of time. (Noticed from the ending credit roll that Lars Von Trier was one of the two script consultants on this film.) But all of the stylistic flourishes mark it as a comedy: the performances are off-beat, the characters themselves as one are slightly eccentric, and the directorial style is one you'd get from a much lighter film.
