It's a nice bonus but it's only available to subscribers of Deezer's £14.99 ($14.99, AU$14.99) a month 'HiFi' tier, and only through a separate iOS/Android app. In my listening comparisons, I have been able to identify particular musical content that remains easily distinguished between lossless and lossy compression, and it was these comparisons of these particular tracks that lead me to decide I couldn’t live with a lossy streaming service. Let's start our comparison of Qobuz and Tidal by first comparing both to Apple music, another service I have access to. I only use the Windows 10 app, and it's been fine, although I wish it remembers Queued music when I shut it down like Spotify. Since it is the primary way I listen to music, it is the service I am most familiar with. The most advanced streaming ecosystem out there, but not necessarily the best value. I'll probably switch to Spotify if they pull the plug, based on their discovery tools. Radio stations and curated lists exist, even if they lag GPM in quality (which I acknowledge is somewhat subjective).
Sound-wise, on my Qutest DAC - Cayin HA-300 amp - Audeze LCD-3 Fazor, I find it slightly superior in terms of dynamic extension and energy, but even more so, I just have better luck with searching for less-than-mainstream pop, R&B, kpop, house, world music, etc. It's easy enough to discover new music although Spotify does have the edge when it comes to recommendations and curated content. I can understand the lure of downloading since I have scenarios where I often want to listen to high-resolution music and I don’t have a good internet signal. Any difference I heard could be associated with a difference in provenance. On bluetooth headphones or meh speakers I would never tell the difference. Qobuz slightly better than GPM. If I was a hip-hop fan, well then maybe. Tidal and Qobuz both have subscription tiers which allow you to access CD-quality streams and, where the content is available, even hi-res music.
I asked Qobuz and Tidal and received the same basic answer. Several reviewers and friends I have talked to have indicated that the streaming services such as Tidal and Qobuz do not sound as good as CD and should not be used for serious listening. I'd agree with you . Nevertheless, the app never locked up or crashed on my laptop or phone. For the last week or so I have decided to check if it's worthwhile for me to change/upgrade from my old standby GPM to one of the uncompressed music streaming services.
